I’m Harley, in Sunnyvale, CA creeping up on getting a couple of backyard chickens. City allows 6, I’m going to start with 2.
I have a friend with chickens, and raised birds in my youth. I bought a small coop, working on a run, scheming on wiring off a corner of the yard. (Now that I’ve written that, the die is cast…). I’ve hand tamed several wild jaybirds over the past 35 years.

Good luck with all of your plans! I would suggest getting 3, just in case something happens to one, you aren't left with a lonely bird.

It's neat you established a relationship with the jaybirds.

Welcome to BYC. I'd start with 3 because baby chicks are pretty delicate. You don't want to end up with a single chick. They prefer to be part of a flock.
