In the Brooder
Hello, we are Don, Terri and Kolby Townsend. We are new to raising chickens. We had not planned on raising chickens at this time but when the chicks showed up in our backyard we decided they could stay. We are building a Coop and Run for them, so for now they are living in a big dog pen in the house. We have 4 chicks, from everything I have read, it looks like we have 3 hens and 1 rooster. One of my co-workers has been raising chickens for a long time and he said from the pictures we showed him they are MUTTS, no certain breed. Three are blonde and one is reddish, two are much bigger then the other two. We love all animals. Our 12 year old Grandson, Kolby has been wanting a pet for a long time and I have wanted chicken. I like that when they are older they will provide fresh eggs and will help with creating go fertilizer for out garden. We have a small garden in our back back yard.
For hobbies Don likes to garden and Kolby dirt track races and is in Boy Scouts. I enjoy cooking, card making and crafting. We have been raising our Grandson for 7 years. Don is a diesel mechanic, Kolby goes to school and I am a phlebotomist. We have 8 Hermit Crabs for pets. I found BYC from looking for answers to questions I had about the care and needs of chicks. Once I found BYC, 2 days after the chicks moved in, I joined and felt more at ease that there was a place I could go and ask questions from people who understood what we were going thru.
