Hello, Community!

My name is Eleanor and my husband, son, and I live in Nor Cal. Honestly, I still have a lot to learn. I feel semi-new to chickens. I've had 5 in the past (1 pair and then 3 when I was a young child.) I currently have a flock of 5 chicks as of now, currently 6 weeks old. I remember my favorite place growing up was the pet store and I would come home with different pets all the time, all it takes is one time with chicks to fall in love with them for a lifetime.

Right now, I have a Barnevelder, a Gold Laced Wyandotte, 2 Easter Eggers, and one I believe to be a Silver Laced Wyandotte (perhaps mixed.) I will probably post pictures of them once they mature and I would be interested to have a guessing game to see what the community thinks of the (maybe) Silver Laced Wyandotte, and the potential crosses of my Easter Eggers. 🧐

My favorite aspect of raising chickens is the tender love and care of being their mama. I find so much joy in taking care of them. I love watching them grow and learning their personalities, very entertaining and funny to watch too. So far, so good. They started out in a 40 gallon terrarium from day old chicks to 3-4 weeks and now, they are enjoying the XL dog crate we had for our german shepherd (3 large breed dogs can fit in there lol) I just set up the large formex snap and lock chicken coop yesterday and will be building the run in the next couple weeks. The chicks are big babies and are enjoying the hear lamp still - must get chilly in the garage. I plan to wean them off in the next couple weeks to toughen them up for the outdoors by 8-10 weeks.

My other hobbies are taking care of my 3 dogs, Alfred - a border collie rescue, Kylo Ren - a german shepherd mix rescue, and Eva - a goldendoodle. I enjoy reading, learning, and listening to music. I am also very picky about what I watch and enjoy/critic films. I want to be a better human by lowering my ecological footprint through supporting ethical, sustainable, and responsible practices in my daily life. It's a big reason why I decided to get chickens in the first place. One hobby that I wish I was better at was gardening so I can grow my own food. It would be awesome to coordinate a community effort to grow fruits and vegetables in our front yards to share with each other and to offer low-income households access to healthy food.

Anyways, enough about me. I'm so glad to be a part of this community and have spent so much time reading and learning from BYC experiences/expertise. I want to thank the community in your collective help with helping me raise my little backyard flock!

Take care,
You can call me GloriousNorious 😉
