Hello my name is B&B.:) I've moved to northern Maine and I'm loving my new surroundings. That being said, I'm limited with my new climate. I hope to learn some of the best breeds or acclimated breeder lines to work with.
I'm new to raising my own meat birds. I've had experience(limited) with egg laying chickens but want to learn more about the meat production side of things compared the laying hens I've been around.
I look forward to talking with the community and absorbing the vast wealth of knowledge here at BYC.

Hi and welcome to BYC:frow We're so excited that you've decided to join us:ya Meat birds can be a lot of fun and a lot of work depending on your approach. We've got a meat bird forum and you'll also want to checkout your state thread. Again welcome aboard.

Thanks for the warm welcome folks. I've just found the Maine section. I'll check out the meat bird forum ASAP.
I raise CXs on 18% protein feed. They spend 3 weeks in the brooder and 35 days on pasture. They move every day and toward the end twice a day. Next year i'm hoping to do a head to head comparison of the cobb 500 and ross708. I'm also planning on bringing some Toads (you'll need to search forums on "TOADS") and see how they perform and reproduce. My CXs live out their days on pasture in 8x8 shelters with hot wires around the base.

G’Day from down under B&B :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also pop in and say hello on your local thread: Find Your State Thread

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
