Hello! I just found this site. After a forced break of a few years we are rebuilding our little homestead starting with 4 baby Rouens in the broader and getting chicks next week. We live in north eastern Kansas. I have ran several birds, barred rock, Rhode Island reds, ameraucanas mainly. Any suggestions for other good layers?
 
I am 4 weeks into raising 16 chicks at this point. We ordered them from Cackle Hatchery. Next time I will drive to pick them up and not put them through a 3 day trip in a box for a trip that would take me 3 1/2 hours and spare them the stress.
We have barred rocks, Buff Orphingtons and Black Laced Golden Wyandottes.
We (my husband and I) want a flock for eggs and I also want them for pets. I talk to them a lot but he’s not into that part. Lol
We like gardening, hiking and traveling. I also love making quilts, embroidering and making fabric art. I think I’m going to love keeping chickens but I already want a few other breeds and the coop and run is only big enough for about 10-12 chickens. We will be giving some of them to our grandson, who also has a backyard flock. Glad to be here!
