Chirping
First time chicken owner trying to absorb all the information I can.
Living in Illinois in a somewhat rural area on about 3/4 acre lot. In the past I have bred, raised and hand fed cockatiels, budgies, a sun conure and 2 rescued monk parakeets.
I heard all the warnings about Chicken math but it got me 2 weeks after I bought 4 girls. I went to the feed store for 3 birds and left with a cinnamon queen- Penny, Dominique- Xena (the warrior princess), laced Wyandotte- Wynonna, and Luna who is all black with what looks like striped feet. They told me she was a EE. Could she be an Olive egger?
I went back a week later because I had bought a small bag of chicken starter and didn't realize how much chickens eat. Well, I saw the cutest new birds called buff brahma that would have feathers on their feet. Ask me to identify hookbills - no problem. Chickens- no clue. They made me buy 2 birds ( store policy). 8 weeks later Buffy is much bigger than Violet and Buffy has a pronounced very dark pink crest. The tail looks as though it's growing more upward and the neck feathers do seem a bit more pointed. I had no clue about the pure breed and thought the store had sexed birds or breeds with identifying coloring for females. I wanted to convert my shed near my neighbors into a coop. Instead I purchased the Sentinel XL coop to place away from my neighbors. I read Brahmas are supposed to be a quieter breed. But unsure about the roos? Omg I am so not a morning person. I will definitely be posting questions about automatic doors.
Brahma breed, and EE that are solid black.
