Hi, I've been reading your posts for months and finally decided to join up and introduce myself. I've wanted to have chickens for years, and my husband finally caved and got me a coop for my 40th birthday (so romantic!) We live in San Diego, in the city, where they've recently eased restrictions on backyard chickens, not that I t stopped people before. We have 2 children, a dog, a cat, and now have added 3 chickens to our family. We got them at about 4-5 weeks old in April 2013 and they started laying, as if on cue, at 5 months old! They are 2 Barred Rocks named Cordelia (Cordie, she's clearly the alpha) and Ophelia (Fifi, she timidly fits her name), and a very sweet Buff Orpington named Nugget. I'll give you one guess which one the kids named
