I have been a HUGE fan of BYC for about six months now. I live in NC and have been working on a chicken run for a while now. I don't have any pictures of the project but I will try to post some at some point. I am almost done with the run and I plan on starting my coop very soon. I am kinda just doing a little at a time(and doing it all by myself). I remember growing up with 2 chickens as a little boy(Poppa smurf and Smurf-et...lol). I plan on having children of my own in the future so I thought raising chickens to provided them with the same experiences I had as a child. I want my kids to understand where food REALLY comes from. I intend to raise a batch or two of meat chickens a year. I have no previous experience with these birds but thanks to this wonderful site and helpful threads, I feel like I have a real good idea what to expect. I also plan to keep around 6-10 layers throughout the year as well.
Anyway although I have never joined until recently, I just wanted to thank everyone in advance for all of the wonderful information that is provided daily on the site. I have been reading books, studying on the internet, and watching a few documentaries as well over the past few months preparing for my own chicken mania......but I havent found any source of information as fun or addicting as BYC.
On a different note I don't have a whole lot of chicken smarts, but if anyone ever has any medical or musical questions.....I may be able to offer some advice. I am a full time nurse and a part time recording artist.
Anyway...enough of my rambling for now. Glad to be a member!
