two of my pullets have a strange habit of flopping over on their sides with their legs poking out in weird angles. They only do this first thing in the morning when the sun is shining on them. Is this a normal warm up exercise for my ladies or is there a deficiency in their diets that makes them do this as I am unable to determine if they are doing it on purpose or because they may be unwell.

Welcome to BYC. The behavior is perfectly normal. They are not ill they are sunbathing.

Lol. Think we have probably all wondered if we have a dead or sick chook the first time you see one lying like that :-). Just enjoying the morning sunshine :-)

Mine always do that out in the morning! Also

Thanks that's a relief, I suspected sunbathing but thought it could be dehydration or some kind of deficiency.

Its definitely a worry at first lol. They didnt like it when I told them no amount of sun is going to rid them of their bony dinosaur legs.

Chickens love their sun spots - so do other animals dogs, cats, you name it. Feels good if you don't have to worry about sun damage.
