I'm posting for both my wife (Sue) and myself (Jeff), we're located in the Richmond,VA area and are new to the bird world.

We currently have 11 Ring-necked Pheasant chicks(not sure they're called that) that are about 8 days old or so. We also have 24 Guinea eggs in the incubator going on day 6. We do not plan on keeping all 11 Pheasants, most likely only a hen and a rooster. And as far as the Guineas go, as soon as they hatch 12 of them are going to a neighbor down the road from us. So we should only have 14 birds 2 Pheasants and 12 Guineas. In the future our plans are to have egg-laying chickens and some chickens for cooking.
We've already separated the Pheasant chicks because 6 of them were larger than the other 5 and they were also practicing their flying skills too, so we put them in a larger container and are working to get the coop and the run done as soon as possible so they can get moved out there within the next few weeks.

We've been reading the forum for a little over 2 weeks and have found some great information that's been really helpful to us, in both setting up our current incubator and nursery tubs and would like to thank everyone who puts forth such great information to help others!
We're presently building our coop this weekend and I've marked out where I'll be digging the footings tomorrow morning and pouring concrete. The building is going to have a foot-print of 10' x 16' and contain nesting boxes, nursery area and a roosting area.
I'm one of those guys who has the drawing between my ears and makes last minute changes as I'm swinging the hammer!

Base joist design will be using 2" x 6" treated lumber on 4" x 4" legs (9 support post, with the longest span being 8' between supports on the 16' length and 5' span on the 10' width).
I'm going to attempt to set up my video recorder on my tripod and film the construction of the whole coop. I'll mark on the ground where I place the tripod so I can put the camera on the same spot each day I start. When it's done I'll post up the video on my website if anyone is interested in viewing it. I'll probably edit it to play super fast so I can shorten the length of the build.
I'd post up my design but there's no USB port on the side of my head so I can download it....guess you'll just have to wait until I can post up the progress.

It's good to be here and look forward to all the help Sue and I can get as we educate ourselves as we go along. I'll keep you posted on the coop and get some photos up as I'm building it. I like projects like this........because I get to play with all my tools, like my Dewalt DW718 Double-Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw and my air nail guns, yep can't wait to get started!
Post up more later.

Congratulations and welcome to BYC!!

I wish I lived on a larger property... I'd love to have pheasants.

Thanks for the welcome everyone.
Well it's 4:35 am and I'm just waiting for the sun to come up so I can continue working on the coop. Guess I could go around and wake up my neighbors Roosters and tell'em it's time to get up and start crowin'.

I'm usually up by 3:30 am every morning so it's about an hour or so before I hear them wakin' up.
