I have been reading this forum for a few months now, and I've finally decided to join in.

I live in Alabama, and I will be getting my first chickens this spring. I am not experienced at raising chickens, but I intend to do the best I can to care for them. Thank goodness I've found this site! I'm so glad that I can easily find information here, and can even ask questions from so many knowledgeable people. Right now I am still in the process of deciding what breeds to get, and how many. I'm planning to start small.

Thanks everyone! I am going to start with a few hens for eggs. I'm interested in raising chickens for meat, just to know that the animals I consume lead a happy, free life. That will be a ways down the road though.
