I finally decided to join this site after a few months of becoming a poultry owner, because this site has been absolutely necessary in learning all about what to do in order to have the happiest, healthiest chickens.
I've always felt a special connection with birds. My love of farm-birds began when I was 16, I spent 28 days hatching out 2 beautiful baby ducks, Ooccoo and Anser, after researching all about them for 2 weeks. Imprinting has been a fascination of mine, and Ducks and Geese are my all time favorite animals (if I had to choose). Unfortunately, I was only 16, and was not experienced in building coops. after 3 months of having them inside, they outgrew my mom's tolerance for poop-size (I didn't know about duck diapers back then), and I had to build a pen outback. This led to my two adored friends being eaten by a raccoon a month later. I was devastated and skipped school the rest of the week to mourn, but the time I had with them was joyous and magical. I still think about them all the time.
Now, 5 years later, I have decided to own poultry once more. I've found myself in the possession of 6 chickens, and a tiny Tom turkey. I have 4 brown chinese geese hatching eggs on the way (I'm excited to make a post about the hatching process), and might take on another duck. They roam free in my large back yard (and sleep in an especially reinforced coop) and a dog that watches them all and loves spending time with them.
So thank you for taking your time to read, and I look forward to finally being a part of this community after reading all of your posts for a while! I'm going to make a separate post for an incident that happened to one of my chickens that I'm going to need some help with.
