I stumbled apon this site looking for answers. .it is so good decided to join. I was looking for information on tiny black bugs on my chicken eggs..they look like a small tiny piece of dirt but they move. .found 2 on me yesterday From gathering eggs.I seen a post that someone said their wood mites?and they probably were in my wood shaving bag. .any ideas?

Welcome to BYC. They probably are some type of wood mites and not infecting your chickens. However, to be on the safe side it would be best to closely inspect your hens especially around the vent area where it's warm and moist. Poultry mites can take a chicken down quickly by sucking blood and causing anemia, then death. Poultry mites look like pepper and are black or red in color. They move slowly on skin or not at all.
Sevin dust will take care of mites.

Thank you dawg53, makes me so angry cause I had already cleaned out the coop an used a shop vac.to really get all the shaving. Then sprayed chickens. .put new shaving in and again their in there urgggggggggg. .I have baby chicks that I noticed have been scratchy. .used the same shaving. .I will go get some seven and redo coop etc. can I put the seven dust on the babies? Thank you so much. hope this works. .
