Hi Everyone,

My Name is Rachel and I am a first time chicken owner. My fiance and I live in eastern WA, and sit on about 5 acres of land a lot of it is undeveloped. I have 11 chicks that I got a week ago today. All are supposed to be pullets but we know that is probably wishfull thinking! I have 3 leghorns, 3 Black star, 3 Aruacana (well that is what the feed store called them but they probably are easter eggers) , 2 Speckled Sussex. This pic is from easter sunday, based on the feathers and size I think the leghorns are at least a week older than the others.

cute!! Welcome to Backyard chickens!! Were they sexed females? if so, i've had pretty good luck with getting mostly females...though its true, even sexed ones can occasionally be a boy :p Mixed flocks are so fun!!

Aww...what adorable babies!! I hope they bring you great joy.

If you have any questions about them, feel free to ask around the forums. Welcome to our flock!

Yes, they were sexed and all labeled as pullet! So heres hoping I dont know if i could deal with a roo first time out!
if they are allowed where you are, roosters are super fun! some can be a bit nasty, but if you choose the right breeds, the roo can be great! roos are actually my favorite birds. They have a ton of personality, and become more bonded to me imo. Maybe its just cause i spend more time with each of them (i have to many hens to bond with all of them!)

Welcome to BYC, Rachel. Glad you decided join our flock. You have some excellent layers. Black Stars (Black Sex Links) are my personal favorites. They are friendly and hardy, egg laying machines. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds and hybrids), and they have been my best layers, consistently churning out more than 300 eggs per hen per year. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your chicks.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Nice to meet you, Rachel!

Cute chicks! You have picked out some great breeds. You will enjoy their eggs that they lay!
