I'm Karl in San Jose California. I've raised various fowl, chickens for example, since childhood back in rural Maryland. More recently I've kept geese and ducks, geese for garden maintenance and ducks for eggs. In the past I've lost birds to bobcats (perhaps a lynx - it was huge) but now have a quite impenetrable wire cage for them at night. I've got incandescent lighting on a timer to extend their laying period. Recently I've had the following duck varieties: various runners, black Swede, Welsh harlequin, and a Rouen. The runners are great foragers and table scrap disposers. The black Swede seems to need a more pampered life style... Also have got a koi pond, which of course the ducks aren't allowed to use and a couple of dozen fruit trees and two neutered black cats who hate each other. Anyway hello.

Anybody in San Francisco bay area want a reasonably healthy 2 year old Black Swede Duck (female that is) She was laying quite well until end of June. She's become very noisy, driving me nuts in fact.
