I used to help my dad with the family flock but I've never had chickens of my own. I got my first ever ten weeks ago from a lady that hatches hers in a huge stand-up hutch type incubator. I got 7 Buff Orpingtons, 6 EE and 3 Bantams. They are all straight run so I have no idea yet if I have just hens, just roos or some of each. (Probbly the latter, I hope!) My husband is a sweetie and built a pen for me. It's 16' by 20' with a tin roof, chicken wire buried a foot in the ground to keep out digging varmits and then finished off with 2" by 4" fence wire over regular chicken wire on the whole thing. We don't have a coop yet but they are in an old rabbit hutch we had with a ramp into it and that's where they sleep at night. We're building the coop later on and putting nesting boxes inside.
I guess you could say that I have "chicken fever" now because I have been on-line ever since then looking at any and everything to do with chickens. That's how I came across this site and I must say that I've learned a lot. Everyone is so encouraging and helpful and I learn something new each day.
Just wanted to say "hello" and say thanks for a great group of people willing to help out us "newbies".
