Hello all,

I am new to backyard chicken keeping and look forward to using the site to help me along this exciting adventure. My chickens are all pullets about 9 weeks old. We have 4 golden sex links, 1 Easter Egger, and one black Australorp. We live in the city and can only have 6 hens.

So far some of the best parts have been raising the birds with my children and seeing some different personalities in each bird. I am an HVAC technician and enjoy working with my hands. I built our coop myself and enjoyed the whole process.

Chickens sure are fun to keep, aren't they? Each has their own personality, some enjoy affection, some are quite curious and some can even learn some words! I am glad you are enjoying your flock and welcome to ours! :)
 
If you ever get over to the Ocala area we have a farm swap twice a month at the Dunnellon TSC. I won't be there at the next swap because I'm going to a poultry show in Lake City at the Columbia County fairgrounds, but I usually go to the swap even as moral support.

Welcome to BYC! Congratulations on being a new chicken keeper. They are so fun to watch and you have come to the right place to learn all you need to know on keeping them. Wonderful winters down there but I sure don’t envy anyone doing HVAC in Florida summers! Good luck and enjoyment on your new chicken ventures.
