Hello all, I am fairly new to the chicken world. Started a small flock of 6 hens 4 years ago. We currently have 14 hens consisting of barred rock, black australorp, and speckled sussex. We love them all and they all get along well. We are considering adding a male to our flock and looking for more information as we continue to learn and grow our flock.

Hello Chickadee love, I will put in my experience. The absolute best rooster that I have experienced is the Americana. I have had three and they are all good with the hens, they find good and call them over to eat before he eats any thing. Very quick to react to predators by calling his ladies into hiding and one of mine loved cuddles. The Americana breed also lays blue eggs (of course not the roosters lol) BTW I just got a speckled Sussex and she is so funny. Always wants to be first. Lol
Happy chickening 🐤
