(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

Newish to raising poultry. My fiance and I got our first 5 hens 1 roo and 2 geese in August of 2020 they were about 7 months old from my dad.
My fiance and I purchased our 1st home in July 2020 and the house had a coop and run pre existing which made me so happy because growing up around poultry from chickens geese ducks peacocks yes PEACOCKS I always wanted to get some of my own so after researching before even purchasing the house (4 months before buying and a month after) I was confident enough to accept the ones my dad gave us in August and when the geese started to lay eggs in February I got an incubator from my soon to be father in law and started that journey sadly after having 15 goose eggs and 9 chicken eggs in the incubator for 2 weeks we had a 3 day power outage due to a tree falling on lines I did my best to keep them warm used hot hands and warm water bottles but sadly but great day March 1st 2 chicks were all that hatched. It was a funny thing too because I had lost hope and figured everyone had died so I wasn't thinking we had a friend over for dinner and all of a sudden I was hearing a squeak sound.. I didn't think anything of it thought it was the cats farting around at screen door.. after the 10th time hearing it I was like hold up cats are sleeping in couch I stood up and was waiting for the sound again... squeekkkk it was coming from the incubator to I flipped on my flashlight and peeked through the window and saw it the most glorious thing ever!!!! A pip hole in eggs this was it we had someone hatching!!!! Within 5 hours (I stayed up til like 1 am) we had 2 babies I waited 13 hours and no signs from the other guys... so I opened the incubator grabbed out our lil additions and got them in their brooder I had set up 2 weeks prior.. which is a 2x2x4 galvanized stock tank (just like the ones that the feed store use as thir brooders) I was sad to find all our others had died in shell during the power outage. But we got 2 babies. On March 6th I went for more supplies for them and ran into a lady that was giving ducklings away... well I called up the fiance and asked his permission and he said yes because he knew how heart broken I was that everyone else didn't make it. I came home with the 4 ducklings and everyone was overjoyed to get to name one. Our youngest picked the best name of their 3 because it atleast makes sense flash because the duckling runs so fast.
I since have tried a new method of incubating Goose eggs but haven't had any luck. I bought a new incubator and have it up and getting ready now to try again for the final time this year tomorrow starting.... I think... im to heartbroken to try again if it fails.
I just ordered 12 Easter Eggers eggs and was told they are F1 Easter Eggers so the eggs will be brown (I hope I wasn't lied to....) they will be here on Wednesday April 14th 2021 so fingers crossed
We currently have I think 27 eggs in other incubators (2 different batches) one batch has some Easter Eggers.
We live in unincorporated area and checked our local laws regarding poultry.. there are a few different things it says if kept primarily as pets we can have 10 if used for eggs we can have 20 if used for meat we can have 50 we also checked what if we want meat eggs and pets turns out we can have up to 80... that is sooo many im definitely not going to have that many we mainly want for meat and eggs though my new turkeys (only a couple weeks old) are turning into my favorites and we'll to be honest I kinda wanna keep as pets and breed them same breed (2 different hatcheries) and hatch their babies and use the babies for meat... maybe....

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Turkeys are a White breed

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

My favorite aspect of raising backyard chickens is being able to raise my 3 kids (5,8 & 10) with our own sustainable resource. Them getting to help with gathering eggs and cleaning out the coop and one of these days culling for food. It's going to mean so much to them as it did for me growing up.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I crochet wood burn sew paint video game.. and SO....MUCH...MORE!!!
Literally just an array of different hobbies all the time having adhd im always busy working on one project or another

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Me and my fiance have been together for about 3 yrs we have know eachother since we were babies our grandmothers were best friends we have always known each other but didn't really hang out until high-school we were friends but always seemed to never be single at the same time. He had our daughter while he was a senior in HS I graduated went off and got married (to the wrong guy) I had 2 boys with my now ex husband. When we divorced I moved me and my boys to a small rental place and ended up having to use my renters flood insurance (glad I purchased that) anyway an incident that flooded the rental place made me have to find a contractor that would fix the problem so my mom asked around at work and found someone who had a contractor themselves I met with the contractorand hired him he told me he had a son that was my age that attended my HS (not a big coincidencecause I was in same town I grew up in tho lol) but I looked up his sons name and wouldn't ya know I knew him I told him that his son and I knew eachother and we had same friend group etc. 20 minuteslater I was getting a phone call from his son asking me out... on a date.. I accepted and a year later we got engaged and moved our families in together and we will be officially tying the knot in August 2021.
Along with our bazillion poultry haha 😄😆🤣 we have a small dog named Junior. 2 cats Fievel Catskawitz (Fievel goes to america) and Squanchy (Rick and Morty) and 2 Beta fish (lost one a few weeks ago) Joe Fish (5yr Olds) and Blitz (8yr old loves Seattle Seahawks)

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community

Honestly having an issue with my lil Gilligan he has a swollen foot and won't put weight on it.. no black spot anywhere just swollen and he seems to be extremely uncomfortable.. I turned to get help via the web and seen some amazing reply to there who have had poultry problems from the BYC group and thought I would join and see what advice I can be given about all my poultry needs and questions!
