My husband and I just brought home a half dozen adorable chickies which are happily lounging and playing around their brooder; 1 cuckoo marans, 1 dominique, 1 RIR, 1 NH, & 2 Ameraucanas. All are 2 days old except for the marans and NH which are about 2 weeks old. We purchased them from our local Agway who gets them from Ideal.

I was stalking this site for a while before we took the plunge and the information available has been so helpful. We have about 2 acres in beautiful Monmouth County and I can't wait until our coop is set up and they are old enough to enjoy the backyard. I am planning on letting them roam the yard (about 1 acre fenced) when I am home and coop them at night. About a 1/2 acre is wooded- trees, brush, thorn bushes, etc- will we have to worry about them getting hurt or do they instinctively not play in thorn bushes?

There is also an in-ground pool that does not have a separate fence. Any issues there?

Thank you all in advance for the great info on this site and (hopefully) answers to my questions.

Have a fantastic 4th of July weekend!
