Hi!

I'm Leigh and I am new to both BYC as well as Bryan - College Station, Texas. I am a mama of 3 (11mths to 9yrs) and wife to a USMC recruiter.

I am hoping to beg our landlord to allow us to have 2 or 3 chickens. I don't know if they will say yes considering we have a no pet policy, but as my oldest son pointed out, this isn't the average pet they're thinking of in the no pet policy. And it's not an indoor one.

If they say no I will simply cry (I'll be honest) and then buck up and start planning for the future. But to cover all bases before I even ask, I am coming on here to brush up on knowledge and to double check the facts about the laws that's I've found for this area etc.

I have actually already cruised craigslist and found a set of 3 adult Sex Links I'd love to bring home, but there is no way I will violate the lease unless the owner agrees to let me have some in writing.

Anyway. I will go on off to see if I can find more info or try to post in the right area asking for more info on the local laws etc.

Thanks for this great forum and hopefully I'll be here to stay!

Leigh from New Mexico!

Yeah, some of those laws are tough. I have kept a lot of parrots over the years and used to do some traveling with them. Of course the rules for motels is "no pets". But most of the time they don't consider a bird a pet. LOL So you may be able to convince the landlords. Just promise them free fresh eggs each week and maybe that will sway them!! And promise them, NO ROOSTERS! LOL

Good luck and enjoy the forums!

Thanks Leyla!

According to laws I've found I have a decent amount of yard space in one side/ corner to put a coop and still not be encroaching on the "50ft from human dwelling except for yours", and the few other laws I've seen I think would be easy - for example not letting them roam in streets / neighbour's property etc. The lease does say birds as well - but I think they were thinking parrots.....at least I hope!

And definitely no roosters, that's for sure!
