I’m an expat living in Mexico fulltime for 5 years. I have 3 white backyard hens, about 3 months old. They haven’t started laying yet. Their names are KFC, Nugget & Pollito. We rescued KFC from a pack of stray dogs when she was about 2 weeks old. Then decided she needed company. I’m pretty sure these are meat chickens, but we don’t have the heart to eat them. Lol

Here they are.

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Awww....cute names! It's fun to give them food names. 🤣 You need to restrict the diet of meat birds, feeding them every other day. If they eat daily, they will gain so much weight they will go lame. Make yourself at home here and welcome aboard!

Welcome to BYC. We have a chicken tractor for our Meat Chickens. @TwoCrows gave really great advice, because at 9 weeks we butchered ours. They were 8+ pounds each, so they grow super face and if they are in tight quarters are super susceptible to sickness. The chicken tractor works great for us. Best wishes to your new flock and again welcome to BYC.

Welcome to BYC. They are meat chickens, the best you can do to prolong (somewhat) their short lives is to have feed out 12 hours a day, and remove for 12 hours daily. Also put feeders a longer distance away from them so they have to move to get to them. If you can get them to free range somewhat it will also slow their rapid growth down a bit.
