Hello!! I’m Maggie and I live in Florida with my small flock of 3 hens and 2 chicks!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? We got our Rhode Island Red and an Easter Egger in November 2020 as pullets. The Easter Egger had some neurological issues and did not make it. We ended up getting 2 additional hens- Ameracauna/Orpington mixes. Last week, we picked up 2 silver spangled hamburgh chicks!!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 5 lovely girls
(3) What breeds do you have? My beloved is a Rhode Island Red. Can’t wait for the silver spangled Hamburghs to grow up!!
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? They are such funny, sassy creatures. I love to watch them forage and chatter. It always exciting to collect the egg haul of the day too!!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? gardening and reading.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am married and have a 3.5 year old daughter. She’s almost as sassy as my RIR!

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I’ve discovered that when things come up with the chickens, I need a seasoned and knowledgeable community to ask questions to, get feedback from, seek advice from… community is important! Thank you to everyone who shares their knowledge and expertise!
