Hello! I have had chickens for many years, but just hatched my first "set" last spring--and was instantly hooked! I hatched three more sets of chicks before last winter, and just finished hatching khaki campbell ducklings. (Four so far, possibly more) I also have a big group of chicken eggs in my large incubator. I just bought a Brinsea manual for my next group of ducks (Saxonys), which should be here the first week in March--my Hovabator's heating element went out, and in the Tractor Supply incubator I have, the temps fluctuate wildly. I wish someone would design an affordable incubator with a design which makes more sense than the ones I have!
I currently have 35 hens and roosters (5 roosters and 30 hens). They are buff Orpingtons, Black copper marans, and blue/black orpingtons. I am trying to hatch some blue copper marans right now, and plan on phasing out the buffs and having the blue/black Orpingtons (they are HUGE birds) and the black and blue copper marans. I stumbled on this forum when I was frantic after my ducks did NOT hatch on day 28. So far four have hatched, but late on the day 29 and early on day 30. I heard another peep in the incubator, so possibly more on the way.
I am an avid gardener, both herbs and vegetables, and the occasional flower, and to make a living I write web content for attorneys. I have two sons--one is married and lives in Albuquerque, the other is graduating in May. We live on a 20 acre farm in Brentwood, AR (about 23 miles from Fayetteville). Glad to meet everyone!
