Good morning!!
My name is Dana and I just started raising chickens in Feb. 2013. Between taking care of 4 kids, 4 dogs, and 2 cats, taking care of 11 hens and 1 roo (Big Mike) is a breeze and very relaxing to watch them. I wanted to get chickens years ago but every time I decided to start the "stork" would visit and another baby would be arriving. My husband and I had our last child in Oct. 2012 and in January a little trip to TSC made my long time wish of having chickens real. We started off with 2 grown hens, then we got 6 white Plymouth rocks, which ended up being 3 girls and 3 boys. I originally did not want any roos, but Big Mike has a crooked toe like my brother Mike so it was meant to be. A couple of weeks ago I purchased 3 more pullets that are a tad young to catch Big Mike's attention, so I went to a chicken auction this past weekend and purchased 5 full grown hens. I, also, have four eggs in my homemade incubator that are on day 7 and thriving. Thanks to this site I was able to learn how to make my incubator, as well as maintaining humidity and temperature. I hope to be able to assist others as well as learn more.
Have a great day!!
