Hello! My name is Leslie and we first got chickens 7 years ago when we moved to our home on 5 acres. We wanted the kids to get a feel for caring for animals in a different capacity than as a pet. Now the kids are grown(ish), busy and uninterested so my husband and I are keeping it up for the long run. We have 15 laying chickens and are introducing 22 "teenage" chicks to the flock right now. The original 15 chickens were supposed to be Leghorns but I believe we got a hybrid because they have some black feathers mixed in. They lay great big eggs and run from everything so I'm okay with that. The newbies are Penedesenca (which I had never heard of but are beautiful girls). We enjoy having chickens because we like good, fresh food and we love being outside. We call it "chicken tv" I never thought I'd be so entertained by watching birds run around the yard. Mostly they follow me wherever I go, as well as our 3 "barn" cats (bottle fed by my daughter so as sweet and docile as can be), and 3 dogs (2 akitas and a shitzu). I feel like Cinderella, doing my chores with all the animals helping, just, I have chickens instead of mice...much preferred I'd say. We also have a garden and I love to make signs, furniture, messes basically using materials we have around the house to repurpose and reduce waste. Our teenagers take up a lot of our time between their school, work and sports we try to spend as much time with them as possible before they get booted out of the nest. I am an administrative professional that hates doing the same tthings all the time so I am opening my own business to support small businesses in their needs. My husband owns a solar brokerage so he is my main client. We spend way too much time together day to day so when we can, we get out and about with friends, family or solo time reconnecting with nature and resetting our energy so we can be top of our game.
