Been reading a lot on this forum about various topics, and I thought I would join. Happily living in Boulder and looking forward to expanding my flock! I spend most of my time outside either gardening, DIYing, or climbing.

I have a question posed in the Coop forum if you are interested in taking my poll:
(awaiting moderation)

Excited to learn more from the folks here!

Hello from Backyard chickens. Glad you joined the flock

Welcome to BYC!

I'm very familiar with Boulder (brother went to school there, parents lived in Denver) and it is a wonderful place. Can you keep chickens there in town now?

What breed(s) of birds do you currently have? If you would like to chat with other members from CO to get some input, you can find them here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/68894/colorado

There is also a self-sufficiency forum you might find interesting:

Good luck to you, it's nice to have you join us!

Awesome, Great to know about the CO thread, I will certainly spend some time on there.

And yes! You can have up to 8 hens in residential (detached) properties, no roosters (surprise).

I currently dont have any but was hoping to get some soon! Is there a breed that you would recommend for the area specifically?

There are several chick selectors that are handy narrowing down your breed choices. Chickens can take the cold better than the heat, but the only thing I can think of is you might want to avoid birds with large combs and wattles (they can get frostbite). For a residential area, I would also look for birds that are calmer and less flighty than some. Based on my personal experience with our mixed flock, I really like the Speckled Sussex and the Plymouth Rocks. And Easter Eggers are fun to have, pretty birds that give pretty eggs.

Here are some of the breed selectors you might want to play around with:

BYC has a nice Review forum you could check out once you have an idea of what you want. The Chicken Breed Reviews are written by members and I think it's helpful to see what owners have to say about them instead of just relying on someone selling the birds.

Once you get your chickens, you'll have to post some pictures of what you have. Always fun to see other member's chicken pictures!

Good luck to you!
