Greetings Everybody! I have already gotten loads of information off your website to help with the new chickens. Thanks everybody for sharing their knowledge and experience.
We were given a couple of chicks from a friend (RIR and ?) & Julz went out and bought some more and immediately broke the rule about integrating the two flocks. The mystery chick from my friend got sick after a day with the new chicks, lethargic and labored breathing. We separated her and monitored her intake and waste. After 24 hours, she progressively got worse to the point of laying on her side. Told the kids she probably wont be around in the morning, they said good bye and went to bed. Later that night I looked in and she was standing up. By the morning, the chicken water was gone and the feed was disturbed, and waste on the paper towels. Positive signs. She has gotten better and after another couple days, we supervised some outside play and all seemed well. The final night before putting her back with the others, she was so noisy, chirping and flapping. That morning we put her back and now is ruling to roost.
Thanks again,
Clayton
