Hello everyone, my name is Dianna. We have a small flock (6)of laying hens, 4 RIR (hopefully pullets) 8 weeks old, and 2 barnyard mix roosters. We also have a trio (rooster and two hens) of RIR bantams and a breeding pair of Double Silver Laced Barnevelder bantams. I have a background in raising and caring for livestock. The past 17 years we have raised alpacas. I am familiar with the birthing of kittens, dogs, and alpacas but hatching chicks is new for me. Our first chick hatched in the incubator this morning. This is all exciting. However, even with the great help I have found on this forum and other sources, I am feeling a little out of my element.

Welcome. Don't feel overwhelmed. I promise you, if you have questions, someone will help here - its just the way they roll. I just had my first hen hatch(meaning by hen, not incubator) 8-days ago. I could not have done it without the help of @janiedoe. She even let me bombard her several times a day with really dumb questions, but never made me feel like they were dumb questions.
