Hi everyone...new chicken keeper from Central California here...just picked up 5 barred rock chicks (hopefully all pullets) yesterday. I've always wanted to keep chickens but have never had the opportunity until now...very much looking forward to learning all I can about chickens in general and the barred rock breed specifically!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

You have come to the right place for all the fun and learning! Congrats on the new BR chicks! I added a few BR's to my flock last spring. They are super layers! They say the Australorp is supposed to be one of the better layers, and they are in my flock. But these BR's are laying WAY better than the Aussies!!

Enjoy your new babies! If you have any questions in particular about them, always feel free to ask. Welcome to our flock!

I'm glad you joined us.

Congratulations on your new chicks! The Barred Rock is a nice breed that should lay very well for you and have a good temperament.

Good luck with your new chicks! Barred Rocks tend to be hardy, productive layers.
