My wife and I just purchased our first chickens! I raised some quail, pheasants and pigeons when I was young, but never chickens. So a week ago we got 25, day old chicks from Bob's Biddies down in south Ga. (he and his wife Dena were great to deal with by the way). We decided on Buff Orps so that our granddaughter would have something that she can work with and maybe show when she gets in school (she's 3 now). I wanted the Blue but had trouble finding them, so we got the Buff. Maybe we'll get the Blues later! Anyways, we built a brooder for them and a week later they're still doing well! Now to building a coop and a run for them! Unfortunately WAY too many predators to let them free-range.

Hello and welcome to BYC

BO's are great chickens and they are so friendly. I hope you can find some blue ones too, they are stunning! If you haven't got done that yet, I'd suggest using hardware cloth on your coop and run. It's fantastic for keeping creatures out, especially raccoons... Enjoy your chickens!
