Hi, folks, my name is George and I'm from a tiny little town in Central Mass and I've just gotten back into chickens after a long, long respite. My first contact with chickens was back in 1965 when I was eleven years old and the family acquired a flock from a nearby farmer that had to get them out of his dairy barn; we had a chicken coop and one night went into the barn and caught the mixed lot of hens and roosters and moved them into the coop.

I always liked the chickens and collecting the eggs and even cleaning out the coop didn't bother me but the family in general didn't want them around and the flock was passed on to someone else. My next flock came about in 1974 but other interests caused this flock, too, to be passed on to another chicken fancier.

The recent group of 'ladies' came about because my daughter-in-law wanted chickens in the worst way and even bought a fancy coop for them to live in and I ordered my first ever batch of chicks from my local farm co-op store, a mixed batch of hens. Barred Rocks, Columbian Rock crosses and so-called Americana's are some of the lovely critters we raised from tiny little balls of fluff.

They are now two months old and I'm looking forward to the fun of having them and enjoy my chicken time every evening, me, the hens and a bowl of sunflower meats.

Oh, by the way, one of my 'hens' crowed this morning for the first time.
