Hi fellow fowl lovers,
I have had chickens for 10 years and Rare Heritage Breed turkeys as well. Yes, I have had a house chicken- Ashley Wilkes. He was a white bantam frizzeled cochin that wore a royal blue flight suite. At one time had 50 chickens but about 25 now - mostly all mixed up due to a wild hen that showed up here 5 years ago and was a prolific breeder. Turns out she is an Old English Game hen and very hearty and independent - so have her lineage been as well. Everyone has a name and fresh eggs are eaten. Also have American Dingo/Carolina dogs as pets and make great guardians too. Have an interest in animal biology and heritage breeds/indigeonous species of the Americas. We are having a very mild winter here near the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Everyone is free range now but will have to start cooping before all my ladies decide it is hatching time. I need a little break from chicks this year and hope I can be vigilent and strong enough to say "no" when the ladies object to my taking the eggs. My turkeys are Royal Palms and look like miniature dinosaur/dragons to me. They are great to hug on cold winter days! Looking foward to connecting, helping, getting and giving advice, sharing experiences with you all.
