I grew up the son of a commercial chicken egg laying farmer. I never thought I'd be attempting something similar later in life, but the apple doesn't fall far I guess.
My family and I just purchased our first home on 2 acres. We inherited 3 Rhode Island Reds and 1 I can't identify. The reds just matured to laying age and are keeping the cartons full. I'm hoping to get into some bobwhite quail soon, and plan to make that my primary effort. I've got big ambitions with them from meat, eggs, dog training, and trying to establish a sustainable population on my grandfathers farm. Slow and steady though.
I've got one dog, a german shorthaired pointer female. She has her part of the yard, the chickens have theirs. Thanks for the awesome website and I look forward to learning more!
