Hi! I'm Luke.
Formerly from Massachusetts, I've been in Chicago for a little over a year and have landed at an apartment that allows me to raise chickens!

I had 13 hens (bantam buff orpingtons) when I was a kid and loved raising them and getting fresh eggs, now that I'm in a place that allows them I decided to build a coop from scratch:

With it nearly completed I went and picked up three 2.5 week old black sex links today.

Planning on getting two additional day-old barred rocks next Thursday.

Wow Chicago has really gone chicken crazy. They even allow them at apartments. Is there a charge for a permit or something. Mayor is always looking for ways to tax people. Moved out almost 46 years ago and don't miss it at all. Neighbors poisoned the dog ,vet saved it_ before we left. Imagine what they would have done to chickens?

The only ordinance I'm aware of is you can't keep them for slaughter. The guy across the alleyway from my apartment had a few hens as well and keeps bees (I see them in my garden all the time)!!! My landlord is Irish and loves the idea of there being chickens on the property and my downstairs neighbors is Miss Jamie from the Farm who performs at marianos, parties, and other events as well as has a childrens book/CD.
