Hi there! I just joined this forum today and am on the last three (or so) days of incubation. Today is day 19 and I found one pip hole, but it hasn't increased yet. Every so often, I hear a chirping sound coming from the incubator. This is my first hatch ever so I'm a bit excited.

I started with 24 eggs, but am down to seven. I think one of those seven is not making it. I candled before lockdown and I could barely see the veins. They weren't sharp like the others. All the eggs were mail ordered as I couldn't find anyone locally to purchase from. I had some issues with temperature fluctuation... accidentally pulled the plug and the temp went to 70 for a couple hours. Another time, I cranked up the temp too much while adjusting and it went to 106 for a couple hours. It's also a still air incubator. Given all these variables, I'm grateful for however many will hatch. I'm already thinking about incubating again.

My husband suggested user names such as ChickenDinner and ChickenSoup, but since I'm a teacher at heart, I went for ChickenSchool. My son asked a couple years ago if he could have a pet chicken which gave me the idea of hatching chicks for a homeschool science project. He would have his pet chickens and I would get farm-fresh eggs from my backyard. This has been a great learning experience for us.

Hi from Missouri and

You will love having chickens they are sooooo much fun. And of course you have the perks of getting eggs and if you let them free range have a lot less bugs.

from Arvada!! Where are you located?

What breed are you hatching? Once they start pipping, I've had some pip, zip and hatch within an hour or two; others have pipped and then had no movement for 24 hours - then they hatched just fine. Keep us posted! and Good Luck!

Welcome. It will continue to be a great learning experience as they grow, and the BYC site will likely be pretty useful tool. I didn't get a very high percentage hatch rate on my first incubation either. At least you started with a good number of eggs.

Hey Arvada! I'm in Colorado Springs. I ordered a bantam mix and a standard mix. Not sure about all the breeds, but I know there's a couple silkies, a black maran, and an Acuna. I'd have to re-check the breed codes on the other ones.
