Hi Everyone!!

I'm a forum newbie and recent convert to garden chicken keeping! I have 6 Cornish Game chickens (I live in Cornwall, UK) and have a Eglu cube chicken house (seemed the simplest way to get started!)

I am completely inexperienced in keeping chickens (other than the little pieces I have been intently reading!) and was wondering if anyone could offer me any advice from their expereinces when starting out, so I can try and avoid any of the major rookie errors!

So, anything I have to particularly look out for? Diseases? Vaccinations? Best feed for my breed? how long do they stay out for? In what weather? Are pests a real problem?

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated! I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you!

hi IM from the west midlands I have 2 xbattery but should be getting SPECKLEDY,BLACK STAR,BLACKTAIL and a BLUEBELLE. I just love having chickens started last year and im always up in the run talking to them. You have to look out for red mite as they can make you chickens ill, have some red mite powder at hand and sprinkle some in the chick house, also keep an eye out for louse also have louse powder as these can make your chicks ill. They dont like to get wet so have some sort of shelter for them, they will go to roost at dusk. Try and get them to have pellets as i have found it the best to have.Hope you enjoy your chickens as much as I do. Helen.
