We've been members of this site for a few weeks and posted a few times, but I just came across the introductions page, so I figured I'd do a formal "Hello!". My fiance Brenda and I bought a home, a "horse property" on 6 acres back in September. I work from home so I get to enjoy the place all day long! Four of those acres are cleared so there's plenty of room for critters. We arrived with a dog, a cat and two fish. Since then we've added another dog and a horse. Brenda really wanted to raise some chickens so we started searching around on the internet for information and found this site - what a home run that was! This site, and the people on it, are just great!
We ordered 6 Buff Orpingtons and 6 Golden Comets back at the end of March. The GCs arrived last Friday and are doing nicely. We're expecting the BOs "sometime before the 25th". A friend is hatching some EEs just to see if she can hatch them and is planning on giving us a couple. Then Brenda discovered Lavender Orpingtons...and we all can guess where this is going. I've read on here about "chicken math". We were just out at the coop we set up for when the chicks are ready and I noticed "hey, there's going to be more than enough room for the chickens we already have and heck we've got tons of room for a bigger run". Man..it's started already
I started putting together our BYC page to capture our chicken saga as it goes along. Anyway, thanks for having this place - who knew there were that many chicken lovers out there??
