(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
- I first started being introduced to the poultry world when my family and I got 6 guinea fowl from my dads coworker many, many years ago. Then, another coworker gave us some chickens. And it grew from there. We hatched and raised our own chicks, took in some rescues, and gave the hens who no longer laid eggs a retirement home. Once they’re with us, they’re with us for the rest of their lives. We had up to over 30 once.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
- 7
(3) What breeds do you have?
2 Bantam hens, 2 Bantam/Ameraucana cross hens, 1 Silky rooster, 1 Australorp hen, & 1 Rhode Island Red hen.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
- Getting home raised, fresh eggs. Raising chickens from chicks. Getting to have hands on experience.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
- I love animals!! I love training dogs, photography, going for walks, fishing, and more.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
- I have 4 dogs, 6 cats (barn cats), & 1 duck in addition to the 7 chickens.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
- I’ve known about BYC for years and have followed along, but never got an account until now.
