Hi Hi Hi!

New member here, finally came up for air from reading to do my first post. So much good information and so many helpful people here on BYC!! I am a sponge, I am a sponge at least I hope so!

Husband and I are chicken owners in waiting. Our "due date" is the 21st. We will officially be come parents to 8 baby chicks.

2 - Buff Orpingtons
2 - Black Australorps
2 - Silver Laced Wyandottes
2 - Americana (EE)

We tend to be seat of our pants kinda people so of course at this point we have nothing. We like a challenge.

Hmmm well in addition to the hubby I have a daughter, 3 cats and 2 fish we never see. I read a lot, dabble in canning and like to bake bread.

Oh and I guess I'm pretty involved in GS in my area as well.

Nice to "meet" you all!

Welcome! Welcome! You will really enjoy having chickens. They are wonderful creatures! Tell us about your coop plans...

Well so far my coop plans include:

A husband who is a professional TD/Scenic Artist and pretty hand with power tools.
A husband who collects bits and bobs and reads Craig's list for a hobby.

I know that there is a salvaged pallet involved somehow and there are rumors of some sort of tarp.

I know it will be one of those raised types with run underneath and some run off to the side.

Yep, that's that's about all I know so far.

Beyond that it would be really cool and crazy or it could be a giant eyesore. I am hoping for the former rather than the latter.

We had a spot in the yard all picked out, but we are now rethinking it. Once every five years portions of the yard have flooded due to an pond from the old timey days that dried up. We thought maybe we might consider moving it closer to the house so that we don't have to worry about that. Also too I figure if it is a wee bit closer to the house we will have good reception on the Chicken TV in the house too!

I personally love all the ones that look like sweet houses and have flowers and such.

I will be sure to take lots of pictures and document the entire project when it begins which should be shortly after the 21st when he finishes up with his classes/shows at school.

Can't hardly wait!

~~~~~~~~
PS: Thanks for the warm welcomes!!
