Hello we are new to the whole backyard chickens. Back in March we got what we thought were 5 hens, 1 rooster, and 2 turkeys. Abut a mobth ago I started to notice that one of the "hens" was in fact a rooster. So now we have 2 roosters. We now only have 3 hens (one passed away when we first got her as a baby). We will be getting more hens this weekend so hopefully there won't be any fights woth the roosters.

We have Black Australorps. One of our roosters might be an Iowa Blue. But all overs are and will be black australorps. For now

I have heard that Black Australorps are a very great breed. If you are wanting to know if the rooster actually is an Iowa Blue, you might want to post in 'What Breed Or Gender Is This?" Section.

If you don't plan on needing fertile eggs to hatch or sell, you can forgo having any rooster. Hens will go about laying eggs(non fertile) just as well without them. Otherwise roosters can handle about 10 hens each. Much less and the hens tend to get overbred, damaged and sometimes killed.
