I saw on TV this elegant country kitchen where the hostess offered afternoon tea on her huge kitchen table. She placed her homebaked scones and china tea service on the table, the camera panned to the other end and there was a most beautiful white silkie chicken who promptly woddled across the table and helped herself to a scone. The visitors faces where well worth a photo.

Anyway, that is the reason for my new chicks, all 5 of them, all bantam SIlkies, each a different colour. They will live in my urban back garden. At the moment they are in 2 different boxes as 3 are 5 weeks and 2 only few days and living in a wendy house.

I have been worried if any one of them will be a cockerel as I can't really can't expect the neighbours to put up with the early morning wake up.
Luckily I have found somebody living in the country willing to have any cockerels.

I use to live in Africa where I raised few hundred chickens, for meat (close your ears) and eggs, this time they are all pets. I have been trying to find names for them, it is almost more difficult to decide than for my children.

Your story made me laugh. I wish I could see that!

I want to visit the UK some time! Welcome to BYC! I love silkies :D I'm glad you have someone that's willing to take the roo :P and LOL I used to name mine the most weirdest names I could ever think of xD

Thanks for the warm welcome.
@Skitz- these days travel is not the problem, for me is finding baby sitter for cats and now chickens! If you make it this way, I am sure there would be enough members who would invite you to visit, you could hop from one chicken coop to another, :).

Having just read about introducing different chickens to each other I wish I hadn't been so impatient when I got mine.
I wanted a white one and the lady who I went to get the first ones didn't have any. She doesn't like white ones as they get dirty, her words, not mine. My black top gets dirty too, you might not see it, but dirt is dirt, regardless what colour it attaches itself to.
Hence I now have 2 white ones (hopefully), just younger. So now I have to test all the theories as to how to introduce them to each other. Like I didn't have anything else to do. Obviously I don't, :)

you might want to add showgirls - they are a variety of silky crossed with naked necks. They are truly very different looking bu, I understand basically the silkie temperament. Search "showgirls thread "and you'll see many photos of them in different colors- they are also bantams.
