Hello Everyone! I have been lurking for awhile and decided to join. I live in East Tennessee and after many years of being without chickens I finally get to start my own flock so we can have our own fresh eggs.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I grew up with chickens but haven't been around any in about 16 years. My husband has never been around chickens so this is a brand new adventure for him.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
15 babies, but I feel like if I go to Tractor Supply again while they're still little there'll be 5 or 6 more...
(3) What breeds do you have?
Barred Rock, Rhode Island Red, Sapphire Gem, and Starlight Green Egger
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Watching and interacting with them, feeding them, listening to all their sounds, and the fresh eggs.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
We're pretty boring, we don't really have any hobbies. Chicken keeping now lol, and hopefully a garden this year if we can find the time.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We are crazy Dachshund people. We have 5 dogs, 3 of which are Dachshunds, 1 Schnauzer and a fluffy 40 lb Pit/Pyrenees mix, and a cat we found outside last year that probably thinks he's a dog now.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Google, while looking for chicken info off and on over the last few years. I have been lurking, getting lots of helpful info lately so I thought I'd join.
