Hello everyone! I am fairly new to chicken keeping. We started with 4 Bantam Cochin chickens about a year and a half ago, and have since added 5 RIR hens, a Buff Orpington hen and one RIR rooster (that was supposed to be a hen!). This year we let the bantys hatch out some eggs for us and have really been enjoying watching them grow! I am excited to join this community and talk chickens with you all!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Does your RIR rooster mount the bantams?
Thank you! He did, and one of the eggs we hatched is actually a RIR/Bantam cross. She is a pretty little thing, the color of a Golden Comet with feathered feet! She is only 6 weeks old, so I'm not sure if she will be bantam or standard sized. She is a little smaller than her RIR half siblings from the same clutch. I should also add that he became way too focused on the smaller chickens, so about 2 months ago we built a second coop and run just for the bantams and chicks. We were afraid he would accidentally kill them. Unfortunately, last night we discovered he broke the wing of a standard BO, so I'm glad we separated them when we did. I actually posted about my recent troubles in the emergency/illness/injury forum tonight.
