Hi there! I just wanted to drop in and say Hi to everyone and to let you guys know how many countless hours I have spent on your forum learning all kinds of things. We homeschool our kids and this year we decided to grow a garden and chickens for the first time. Our garden did awesome until the bugs took it over. We still have some Okra and Eggplant but everything else is slim pickings.

We have 9 buff Orpingtons and 2 BA, and 2 BR...We have found them to be a true pleasure. My kids are learning how to take care of their animals and they are learning where our food really comes from. I have noticed there is much less waste around here, since we start growing our own food.

The kids realize how much hard work has to go into getting something good.

Anyway....I just wanted to say Hello

Hi Friedegg! I'm a homeschooler, too, in Arizona. My kids have learned to raise their own food, too. My 5-year-old daughter collects the eggs each day, and my oldest son packages them in the evening to sell. They really take pride in that. 'Their' chickens never really took to them, so they are constantly on the lookout for something young and fuzzy at the feedstore. We have waaaaaaaay too many critters around here now, but we sure won't starve any time soon!

How old are your kiddos?
