Hi everyone!
Just to tell you a little about myself. I'm a navy spouse and my husband just got stationed in Groton, CT. I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter and almost 4 mo. old son. We have 1 boxer and will soon have some little chickies! We bought our first house and its got an acre of land, so to my husbands dismay I have decided to raise some laying chickens. Not only are they adorable, but I hear fresh chicken eggs are delicious. I'm a city girl who's dreamed of the country life, so here's my chance to kinda have that. I have ordered eggs and have my incubator set up and waiting for my new babies. I have no experience with any livestock, poultry nothing. So all my info is gleaned from online and mostly BYC. I also plan on getting a husky but am nervous of their prey drive and hope that with early exposure and lots of discipline we can all live in harmony in my awesome new home.
PS- my story of how I fell in love with chickens. When I lived in hawaii, I was about 7 when I went to this lovely park for the first time. There were chickens and ducks and other animals that just wandered around. This one fat chicken began following me around. She would sit in my lap and let me pet her for hours. She was the sweetest thing...I never knew chickens could be like that. And one day she laid an egg in my lap. Odd, I know, but it was such a touching moment, that she trusted me like that!! Ever since then I wanted one sooo bad.
