(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes, I got my first chicks back at the end of April 2020, and they are 17 weeks old!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I started out with 10, but one of my Polish died at about 6 weeks
I have 9 currently.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Gold Laced Wyandotte (2) - Hens named Ginger and Honey
Silver Spangled Hamburg (2) - we thought we bought Wyandottes?
- Hens named Wilma and Fanny
Gold Laced Polish (1) - Hen named Muppet
Jersey Giants (2) - Hens named Betty and Layla
Spangled OEGB (1) - rotten rooster named Ducky (can you say Napoleon complex?!)
Black Splash Cochin (1) - rooster named Scuba
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love all the various personalities of my birds. Spending time with them is very calming and relaxing (unless I am being chased by my tiny little rooster!)
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Gardening, sewing and jewelry making
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Lucky to work from home (pre-pandemic arrangement) for a great company, married for 20+ years with a 19 year old son. Hoping to eventually buy some land so we can add to our flock and add some other animals as well (ducks, goats, etc.). Very interested in creating a hobby farm/homestead.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I stumbled upon BYC many times when I was doing research on the various breeds of chickens I have and just trying to be a better chicken mom
I joined the community a while ago, just getting around to posting my intro! Happy to be here, and have already learned a lot from the community!
