Hi,


I live in Hampshire, UK, with my husband and two small children (4 and 2), 3 hens (2 mixed and a buff orpington) and at the moment 3 chicks too!

I'd love to have more hens but we don't have a bug enough garden.

We took the chicks from my son's school as they had hatching eggs in his reception class and his teacher asked if we would like to give them a home instead of them going to the local play farm. How could I resist?

Chicks are fun to raise and taking care of an animal is very educational for a child. By the time your 6 birds begin laying, you'll have a nice size flock providing you with plenty of eggs.

Glad you could join the flock! Congrats on your new chicks :celebrate I love raising chicks and have just set 27 more eggs in my incubator so I can have more fuzzy butts. Raising them is so much fun and I'm sure your children will thoroughly enjoy watching then grow and develop. Do you know what breed your new ones are?

Congrats on the chicks! Chickens are sure addicting aren't they?!

Buff orpingtons are my favorite breed! I love their affectionate personalties and big, fluffy appearances. You may want to check out this link on adding new chicks to an already established flock

The best way to introduce new chicks is to start when they are about 8 weeks old. Put them in the same area with the other chickens but keep them separated by wire or something else. Make sure they can see each other but not reach and peck one another. Do this for about 2 weeks and then let them mix.
