I have been a Hoosier all my life.
I raised leghorns several years ago in the early 80s. Knew little about it, but my sweet girls always gave fresh eggs. My girls all passed of old age, i never had the heart to do anything with them most lived about 10 years or so..
Found your site a month ago.
Well... I had to join. You are all awesome, i have learned so much!
I remembered how much i enjoyed watching the girls grow and gathering the eggs they gave in return for our love for them.
I was given 6 wyandottes this spring, and just gained 4 Partridge Plymouth rock tonight! We are excited and enjoying the daily "chicken soap opera" when they have their range time :)
Out of our first 6 we have since realized we have a ROO!!!!! this will be a new experience for me.
I am retired and they have given me hours of happiness every day.
I am looking into better coop design and plan to start meat birds soon. (but NOT my girls or MR RED!)
We also have 6 geese, 4 ducks and 2 guinea keets.2 dogs, and several strayed cats..
Everyone visits the vet when they show up so theres no new babies with all the strays.
Oh and my wonderful oscars and my pond fish. We just love all the critters.
I take in the 4H birds at the end of the season, we have several small children that visit.
The kids that have raised these birds have cared enough to socialize and love them.
I plan to share our new country coop soon, cant wait til its completed!
