Hi from Juneau, Alaska.

After 4 or so years of not having chickens, I thought it was time for them to return to the yard. So, today I ordered 3 Buff Orpingtons, 3 Barred Rocks, 3 Silver Laced Wyandottes, and two BB Bronze turkeys. With the exception of the turkeys, this is the same mix of birds we have had in the past, and they have worked well together. I don't know why I ordered the turkeys, but they should be fun (for Thanksgiving!).

My area is zoned for 3 livestock animals, but if the areas is kept clean and there are no complaints, the city does not bother you and your chickens. I called the city a few years ago and asked them about livestock. I mentioned that cows were a bit larger than chickens, and asked why the limitation on small animals. They just said livestock is livestock, and they consider chickens as livestock. At least they are friendly towards chickens.

The chickens will be housed in an old coop I built until I build a new one, and a 10 X 20 pen.

Now, if I can just convince my wife that this is a good idea -

Welcome!

I spent several weeks in Juneau back in the early 90's working as a volunteer for the forest service. Most of my time was split between Sitka and the little town of Hoonah. Wow, brings back memories...

You say "Wife, this is a good idea". That's how you convince her! Congrats on your chick order, and welcome to BYC from Cape Cod.
